This beautifully restored, 100 year old stone house, tucked away in a small village, recorded as being an historic settlement, is on the Apokoronas peninsular. Only 5km from the sandy beaches of Kalyves and 25km east of Hania. The house is 146m² has a neighbouring plot of 577m², and consists of; 2 bedrooms, one of them with wooden floors and access to a large 25m2 terrace, a fitted kitchen, living room with dining area, family sized bathroom with bathtub and a court yard of approximately 10m². For the ceilings the owner has used treated cypress logs for the timber frame, with a reclaimed terracotta tiled roof, to maintain the cottages rustic charm. The windows and external doors are hand made from a hard wood known locally as ‘iroko’ with pine being used for all the internal doors. The walls have been plastered using an age old technique using a special local stone found only at a depth of 4-5 meters. This stone is then ground into a fine powder before being mixed with lime. As a result the walls take on a beautiful scubbled, ochre colour that is smooth to the touch and very hard wearing. The house renovated to a very high standard, set by the islands archeological directives also benefits from a cozy, traditional ingle nook fireplace and central heating.
